We handle septic tank installation in Hampshire, TN, an unincorporated community in western Maury County. It sits in ZIP 38461, about 26 miles southwest of our base in Thompson's Station. U.S. 412 crosses farmland and runs through the community on its way east to Columbia. Here it meets the north end of State Route 166, Pisgah Ridge Road, which runs south toward Mount Pleasant. With no town government, there is no town to run a sewer system. Maury County counts Hampshire as one of its three recognized rural hamlets, with Santa Fe and Culleoka. The county's long-range plan calls for limiting water and sewer expansion into rural areas. The county set up the Maury County Water System in late 1976 to bring drinking water to rural areas. That system carries water, not sewer. So a Hampshire home treats its wastewater in its own septic tank and drain field.
Septic Superior is a family septic company based in Thompson's Station. There are more than 20 years of septic work in Williamson County behind the company. Around Hampshire, we handle septic system installation on new homesites and full replacement when an old system gives out. Older systems get septic tank pumping and repair from us. We file the permit with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) and handle it start to finish. Emergency septic service is available. Every estimate is free and on site: we look at the site and hand you one price.

Each year the community holds the Hampshire Jubilee and Festival, with food trucks and live music. Hampshire is unincorporated, so county offices fill the roles a town would. The Maury County Sheriff's Office handles all law enforcement. The Hampshire Fire Department is a division of the Maury County Fire Department. Hampshire Unit School enrolls kindergarten through grade 12 for Maury County Public Schools. Septic follows the same pattern: county and state rules apply, with no town code on top.
The Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 survey estimates about 1,460 people and about 632 homes in ZIP 38461. The median home there was built in 1993, so about half are that age or older. A home that age on its first system has a tank and field more than 30 years old. When an older field stays soggy or drains run slow, drain field repair or full replacement may fix it. On a new homesite, our crew sets the tank and builds the drain field.
Maury is not one of Tennessee's nine contract counties, so septic permits here come from the state. TDEC's Division of Water Resources issues them under state rule 0400-48-01. Its Columbia Environmental Field Office serves 13 counties, Maury among them. The office sits on Hampshire Pike in Columbia, the road that heads out toward Hampshire. We file the permit with that office and coordinate the soil evaluation as part of the install. Our guide to the perc test in Tennessee covers who does that soil work.
West of town, U.S. 412 runs through wooded, hilly country in Lewis County to Gordonsburg, at the Natchez Trace Parkway. On a hillside lot, the state slope rule decides where a field can go. A field area steeper than 30 percent is unsuitable unless the soil keeps effluent from moving sideways to the surface. Past 50 percent, it is unsuitable outright. The approved field area must also stay undisturbed when the lot is graded. If that cannot be avoided, the area is evaluated again after grading.
